Located the service records of my fathers uncle, shows him enlisting on the 15th April 1916 (with a falsified age, we know he was born in 1900) and discharged 8th July 1920. Awarded the 1914/1915 star, British War Medal, Victory Medal and the Military Medal. Taken on strength 47th Btn 18/2/17 in France and transferred to 45th Btn 25/5/18. Remained a Private throughout his service. Returned home to the farm for a year and then dissappeared until the mid 1980s when the family was notified he passed on.

Service records can be researched at this address

http://www.naa.gov.au/collection/explore/defence/service-records/index.aspx

Also have the service medals of my mothers grandfather, served as a Major in the British Intelligence Corps during the Second World War. The 1939-45 star, Defence Medal, African Star and Italian Star.

Also have previously found records for another of Dad's relatives that was decorated for service during the Battle of Brisbane in the QLD Police Force.

Nice, I should probably go digging around for my uncle's service record or something like that, seeing that he fought in Vietnam and all. Could also ask to see Keith Payne's service record too seeing that my friend's family is quite close to his and that he's a local bloke.

Yeah, I remember that he moved down to here. He was born in Ingham and has a lot of family back there, knew his granddaugther a bit a few years back. Small bloody country hey lol. Could probably track down someone that knows Madness and Frog if we tried :p

P.S Post up your histories if your get hold of them, they may never talk about thier experiences but its interesting to learn about your family.

It may be bunk but family lore is that my German born Great Great Maternal Grandfather was the military advisor to the King of Romania (we have a photo of him in his uniform) in the early 1900's. The family name was anglicised after he was assassinated in 1912 whilst on leave in Germany and my great great grandmother moved to back England. His son was the previously mentioned Mothers Grandfather.
